The Grand Hotel Europe, opened in 1875, is the oldest luxury hotel in St. Petersburg, located in the very heart of the city, at the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Mikhailovskaya Street. Throughout its long history, the hotel has received guests from all over the world. Here Emperor Nicholas II honored the Prince of Siam, P.I. Tchaikovsky, gave a concert by Sir Elton John and sang Whitney Houston. Designed by the architect Ludwig Fontana, the hotel is a listed building with a lush neo-Baroque façade. The famous stained glass panel "Apollo in a Chariot", stained glass ceiling, graceful wood carvings in the Art Nouveau style decorate the restaurant "Europe", designed by the architect Karl Mackensen and opened since 1905.
